were rather sharply engaged for a short time  our Cavalry behaved well, & the 5th Reg.t distinguished themselves by retaking 3 Portuguese guns which had been taken by the Enemy  our Div.n marched to support the 3rd Div.n  on our appearance the Enemy retired to a hill they occupied for the night  we lay by our arms all night, & offered battle in the morning 
26th The Enemy not having assembled all their force, did not think proper to accept the challenge  we could perceive them very clearly in the position they had taken up  they were manoeuvring their troops the whole of the day & had thrown their convoy into C.
