were rather sharply engaged for a short time our Cavalry behaved well, & the 5th Reg.t distinguished themselves by retaking 3 Portuguese guns which had been taken by the Enemy our Div.n marched to support the 3rd Div.n on our appearance the Enemy retired to a hill they occupied for the night we lay by our arms all night, & offered battle in the morning
