our own plans - or know that sich cant be did. I dont see anything yet
however that will stop us. The work at Choukoutien is progressing ok and
I expect to go down there on Tuesday next to give it the once over. Ting,
Wong and perhaps Heine and Teilhard will go along - another expensive
motor joyride for a day. But thats the only way to go for one cant depend
on other transport. I had a harrowing experience today!! Was wakened at
12.20 pm by Branch and Dunlap talking - and I was due to lunch at the
Fergusons at 1 o'clock.....some hectic awakening! Heine came in as I
was putting on the finishing touches ^ I had to shave even! and phoned for his car and sent me
off in it or I would not have made it till late. Never again however! No
more Sunday luncheons at 1pm for I!! Sunday was made for sleepin - I
didn't go to bed till dawn which is 4.30 and me hind end was near blistered
when I did for I had worked with industry and application on Sat with 3/4
hrs off for dinner - laying off angles and sice on craniograms and
entering records etc sittin for 9 straight hrs on a hard stool - I pity
bankers!! But I got the record books ready so Miss Hempel and Hsieh have
three or four days work ready for em in summarizin. That will clean up
my north China male series of skulls and I shall be on prehistoric stuff
from now on mostly - though I shall keep the analysis and seriation of
modern data on the go as a background right along. What dry gossip to
spill on a Sunday afternoon chat with me mither!! Tonight I am dining
at Grabaus with the gang - Grabau telephoned he had completed the Pontian
epoch map of Balasia That I have been at him to do for a year - I am keen
to get a squint at it for it was a critical stage in the geological
history of the mammalia - we were all migrating hither and yon them days
which were crucial ones in the distribution of modern faunas - great stuff
to play with - I am arranging to have the artist work in the evenings at
extra pay to get this geographical-geological decoration done as I cant
spare his time in the day from my own skull stuff. Tomorrow night Ting gives
a farewell diner for Andersson ans so it goes. Good night dear wee mother
