The City Manager stated that the had received a communication from Mr. Paul G. McIntire requesting that Midway Park be reshaped to make it conform to the dimensions of the statue of Lewis and Clark, and recommended that it be done, whereupon he was instructed to carry out the wishes of Mr.McIntire in the matter.
A petition from residents of Fifeville for an arc light to be placed on the corner of Jones and King Streets was referred to the Light Committee and the City Manager with power to act.
A communication received from Gilmer and Graves submitting a petition of the Misses Alexander for reimbursement of certain expense in connection with the death of their father, W. A. Alexander who was run down on the streets of the city by the city fire apparatus was referred to the Public Safety Committee and City Manager to to report back. A petition signed by several hundred citizens was presented praying that a law be passed permitting the raising of hogs within the corporate limits, subject to proper sanitary laws. Same was referred to the Board of Health and Public Safety
Committee to report back. The following report from the sewer committee was received and approved:
The request made for the extension of sewer to the Preston property on Preston Heights, referred at your last meeting to the Water and
Sewer Committee, has been gone over by them, and they respectfully beg to report that since the cost of this work will be approximately $1000. and the additional water consumption made necessary by this improvement will be so small that it will not pay 6% on the investment, therefore the committee does not feel justified in recommending this expenditure which will be divergence from the policy of making the additional revenue pay interest on the investment.
