Mr. Jon Morris of the firm of Haley, Chisholm and Morris, appeared before the Council and asked permission to temporarily close Seventh Street, Northwest,and on motion the following resolution was adopted:
RESOLVED, by the Common Council, the Board of Aldermen concurring, That, Haley, Chisholm and Morris be permitted
to temporaarily close Seventh Street, Northwest, between Preston Avenue and West Street, in order to facilitate the unloading of gravel at that point; this condition to obtain, however, only during the hours of actual use of said block for the aforesaid purpose. This privilege is granted for no longer period than three months.
[Appro. for water survey.]
The following resolution offered by Mr. Twyman was laid on the table under the rules: RESOLVED. That the sum of $1500, or so much thereof as may be necessary be and is hereby appropriated to have a complete survey made of the water consumption of the city with a view to discovering any wastage of same.
The following motion by Mr. Long was adopted:
[Remission of taxes on "Old Ladies Home"]
RESOLVED, by the Common Council of the City of Charlottesville the Board of Aldermen concurring, That the city taxes assessed against the "Old Ladies' Home" be and is hereby remitted.
The following resolution was unanimously adopted and will be found spread at length on Ordinance Book #1:
[Quarterly appropriation]
A Resolution appropriating the sum of $67,631.67 to meet the expense of the city government for the quarter ending February 29, 1920.
On motion the meeting then adjourned.

The regular monthly meeting of the Common Council was held on this date with the following members present; Councilmen Forrest, Huyett, Gleason, Long, Smith, Twyman and Via.
[petition for Arc light]
Minutes of the meeting of December were read and approved.
A petitition for an arc light at the intersection of Monticello Road and Belmont Avenue was referred to the Light Committee with power to act.
[Report City Manager] The City Manager submitted his report on Public Utilities for the month of December, which was read, discussed
and ordered filed. We also submitted a report of transactions in Army Food sold under the auspices of his office, showing a total receipt of $8,150.73 and a disbursement of $7,988.66, leaving a balance on hand of $162.07 to be turned over to tthe Poor department.
[health] The Board of Wealth submitted its report for December, which was read, discussedand ordered filed.
[police] Reportt of the Chief of Police for december showed cash fines $330.50: cases in default, $37.50.
[In re. sale of horses at fire house and purchase of truck.]
The Public Safety Committee, in respect to the proposed appropiatiom of $5,000 for the purchase of a truck for the Fire Department, adopted by the Board of Aldermen at the December meeting, which contemplated disposal of certain horses, reported that
it was not deemed expedient to dispose of the horses until the new motorized eqipment has been received and tested and prove practical in every way. In view of this report the resolution to appropriate the foregoing sum was not called up.
