COUNCIL CHAMBER, September 1, 1920
A Special meeting of the Common Council was held on this date, pursuant to
the ordinances, for the purpose of organization, and consideration of application
of L. Robinson & Sons for sewer connection on West Main Street.
There were present Elliott, Forrest, Smith and Via of the 1918-20 body, and
J. P. Ellington, F. H. Quarles, F. W. Twyman and L. R. Whitten, newly elected members
for the ensuing term.
The Clerk read a communication from the Clerk of the Corporation Court
certifying that the newly elected members had duly qualified as Councilmen.
ELECTION OF COUNCIL OFFICERS.
Dr. W. M. Forrest was elected President.
Mr. L. R. Whitten was elected Vice President.
The election of Clerk was passed by for the present.
IN RE. SEWER FOR L. ROBERTSON & CO AT THE COLONIAL CONSTRUCTION & SUPPLY CO. ON WEST MAIN STREET.
The privilege of the floor was extended to Mr. John L. Livers who stated to the
meeting that L. Robertson & Co. of New York, were contemplating opening a wholesale
clothing manufacturing plant on the premises formerly occupied by the Colonial
Construction and Supply Co., and that sewer facilities would be required in case
said factory were opened. He asked what the disposition of the City would be in
the matter, whereupon the following was offered and unanimously adopted:
Whereas the L. Robertson & Co of New York is contemplating establishing a
manufacturing plant on the premises formerly occupied by the Colonial Construction
Co., and Whereas the City is desirous of offering inducement to said corporation
and at the same time place sewer at the disposal of residents of this section,
RESOLVED, by the Common Council, the Board of Aldermen concurring, That the City
Manager is instructed to lay the sewer line to the line of this property as soon, a
after he is notified that said manufacturing plant is to be so located, as is
possible, provided permission can be secured from the railway companies to pass
through their properties. This City reserves the right to tap said sewer line from
time to time.
The meeting then adjourned.
