COUNCIL CHAMBER, May 8, 1919.

The regular monthly meeting of the Common Council was held on this date with the
following members present: Councilmen Elliott, Forrest, Huyett, Long, Smith and Via.

Minutes of the meeting of April 10th were read and approved:

Police appointments.
The Mayor reported the appointment of M. F. Greaver as a policeman of the City, and
W. W. LeTellier Assistant Boss of the chain gang, which were approved.

Police report.
The Chief of Police reported cash fines for April $272.80, cases in default $90.00.

Health Report.
The City Health Officer, John H. Woods, submitted his report for April which was
read and ordered filed.

In re. motor fire apparatus.
A communication was received from the City Fire Company asking that the matter
of purchasing motor apparatus for the fire department be given prompt consideration
in view of the State Firemen's Convention to be held in this city in August, as it
was desired to have at least one piece of such apparatus. The matter was referred
to the City Manager with the request that he take up same with the Public Safety
Committee and get report for the next meeting.

City Manager's report.
The City Manager submitted his report for April, which was read and discussed.

In re. rounding street corners.
The question of rounding the corders of the sidewalks on Main Street from Fifth Street
East to the foot of Vinegar Hill, as recommended by the City Manager, was referred to
the Street Committee and City Manager with power to act.

Report of Water Comt'ee on Park St. extension.
The following report of the Water Committee was received and approved:

May 8, 1919.

To the Common Council,

Gentlemen:

Your Committee on Water to which was referred the question of extending
the water main north on Park Street, as per petition, beg to report the following
resolution adopted in the matter;

Whereas the proposed extension of water main on Park Street would serve
only one property within the City Limits and five beyond said limits, and
Whereas the income from water rates from said five properties would not pay
the interest on the cost of installation beyond the City line, and
Whereas other apparently more needed extensions are desired, therefore,

Resolved, That the Committee an Water & Sewers hereby return the petition
without recommendation for such action as the Council may deem proper under
the circumstances.

COUNCIL CHAMBER, April 23, 1919.

A special meeting of the Common Council was held on this date to consider petition
for water main on North Park Street; to consider concurrence in action of Alderman
on speed of railway cars, Souther freight track, health ordinances and appropriations
for sewage disposal plants and paving of W. Main Street.

There were present Messrs. Elliott, Forrest, Gleason, Huyett, Long, Twyman and Via.

In re. water main on N. Park Street.
A petition for extension of water main on North Park Street was presented by
Messrs. Davis and Farish, which was referred to the Water Committee to report back.

The following resolutions and ordinances adopted at a meeting of the Board of
Alderman April 16th, were presented and concurred in:

Speed of cars.
An Ordinance amending and re-enacting Sec.592 City Code entitled Speed of Cars.

In re. Board of Health.
An Ordinance defining the duties, responsibilities and authority of the Board of
Health of Charlottesville.
