Respected friend
As Congress will meet in
about five weeks, I discussed with our
representative Buffinton, who was in town a
day or two since, our Alabama claims in
relation to commissioners, and the importance
of having at least one N England man, and
a man who understands the nature of the
whaling business, and that it might hasten
the actions of Congress, if the President could be
seen and if practicable for him in his message
to bring the subject before Congress in such
manner as would be likely to give it the
right direction.

In talking the subject over with G. O. C.
yesterday we were united in believing that
W W Crapo is the man for commissioner from
N England, we are not aware that thee has
an interest in any vessel wh was distroyed,
and if an interest in any scrip that could
