Major General George F. C. Bray, late
Colonel 96th Regiment, in which he served for thirty"--"
one years, and which he commanded for eight years,
died last week at Kidbrook"--"grve, Blackheath. He had
held various Staff appointments during his career. He
was Assistant Adjutant General and Deputy Adjutant
General of the Bombay Army, and Assisstant Adjutant
General of the Second Division during the Abyssinian
campaign. His last appointment was that of Assistant
Adjutant General of the Southern District. On the
last day of his Staff command he was seized with a
severe illness, of which he has since died. He began
his military career as an ensign in the 39th Regiment,
having succeeded to the commission of his elder brother,
Ensign Theodore Bray, who was killed while carrying
the colours of that regiment at the battle of Maharaj"--"
pore in 1843. General George Bray was the second
son of Colonel Bray, C.B., who served for many years
in the 67th Regiment, and afterwards in the 31st and
39th Regiments. The funeral will take place at
Charlton Cemetery, Charlton, near Woolwich, on
Thursday, at three p.m.
