Boston, Augt. 12th 1846

Rev. John W. Alvord,

Dear Sir,

The pleasant duty devolves upon me, as Clerk of the Phillips Church, to communicate to you the following vote, pass unanimously at a special meeting of the Phillips Church, held in the vestry of their Church on Tuesday evening the 11th inst.

Yours in Christian love C. S. F. Allen

Whereas this church as been for sometime destitute of a settled Pastor, and in its peculiar circumstances and trials is much in need of a faithful minister of experience and piety; and whereas the minds of its members have been led after much prayer and deliberation to unite in a desire that Rev. John W. Alvord of Stamford, Connecticut should become said pastor, if such should appear to be the will of God, therefore Voted, that this Church do hereby invite Rev. John W. Alvord to become the Pastor of this Church and people.

Attest: C. S. F. Allen Church Clerk.
