We let loose the tongue, such an audience & such roaring
hearty cheers as we got at the close
of these interviews was almost too much
for two such nervous bodies as Brs. S. &
myself. Some things you would not
believe or rather could not appreciate.
One regt where there was no chaplain begged us to come speak to
them next sabbath. I intend to go
if I should write them. So we worked for
two days, and I trust the spirit of the Lord was with us. I took care that there was
an abundance of our material in
the carriage -- & after a while Br. S. want-
ed to distribute nothing else. He was
delighted with every thing we had done
& saw for himself how the red books,
Banner, &c. took with the Soldiers. I men-
tion all this to show you how provi-
dential it was that such a man should
be sent here just at this time. They had
been (in Phil.) meaning to publish some
things themselves for soldiers -- have had a number
of large meetings, on the subject. He (Stuart) is to
address one next Sab. Evening where he
expects 3000 persons presnt & desires of me
samples of every thing we had. I have put him
