To the President of the U. States Dear Sir The Rev'D Alvord, the efficient sec-retary of the Amer. Tract Society located at Boston has been with the Army of the Potomac for nearly a year & is know well to the officers generally as a man most val-uable to them in his efforts both for the bodily & spiritual welfare of the soldiers. If any man can be permitted to go with-in the lives he is one most worthy. He has
