My dear boy John.

I have your very pleasant letter and I thank you from my heart for all your kind wishes and congratulations. Of course I would think so but surely old fellow I am to be congratulated.

Thanks for your great kindness in inviting me to come [that?] and inspect "Stock Yards" &c. Surely we would love to do so but I fear will have to skip you this time. Honestly we would enjoy it but our "schemes" are pretty thoroughly

laid for this trip.

I would most [heartily?] enjoy seeing you at the wedding, but of course I appreciate the situation though. I am sure your presence would give me a degree of manner and confidence I shall otherwise be sure to lack.

With love to all and much to journey I [care?] [we?] ever in the [hands?] of [time?] [consinship?]

John Alvord [Hinsdale?] (proud of that)
