Be pleased to unset the preceding preamble & resolutions - "Mr Jefferson expired on the 4th about ten minutes before one 1 o'clock in the afternoon, after an illness of little more than a confinement to his bed of little more than a week, tho' the disease of which he died (diarrhoea) had been of long continuance. He suffered little bodily pain, & apparently none at all in mind -- spoke of his approaching end with the most perfect composure, and indicated no solicitude except that his life should be prolonged to the 4th fourth. We all rejoice here that his wishes were fulfilled. * He was buried yesterday without any pomp or procession, in compliance with his dying request, but very many attended the burying place at Monticello, to see him interred. He left a [?] of his life which I believe will be put to press immediately - and numerous papers that are intended for publication some years hence."
Some lines to "Simplicity" were sometime ago forwarded to your office through friend - as they were not published then, I had rather they should not appear now, & if they are not destroyed you will oblige me by forwarding them.
