Can you tell me what I did wrong here? When I try to save, the screen tells me that all the names I typed in are "uncategorized."

Hi Chris, thank you for asking! First, any text, including punctuation, within the double brackets is included in the subject name. It looks like many of the subjects indexed on this page include a period at the end, which would disrupt those subjects being matched to the predefined list we have on the "subjects" page of the project.

Likewise, if the text in a subject on a page is not a one-to-one match to a predefined subject, a new uncategorized subject will be created. We recommend opening the "subjects" page in another window in order to compare the transcribed text against the subjects we've already listed.

Keep in mind the actual text on the page is the most important thing, so even if our subjects are spelled or punctuated slightly differently from what you're seeing, it's important to maintain what you see on the page. However, you can still link varied text to our predefined subjects through the use of a vertical bar "|" within the brackets, as described in the last paragraph of the transcription conventions above.

If this is too tedious of a task, it's still very helpful of you to create uncategorized subjects, because we can undertake the process of linking them correctly afterwards. There might be locations that we haven't listed in our subjects yet as well, so it's very helpful either way! Thank you for your help again!

Thanks for the response but I'm afraid this has me beat. I took the periods out of the brackets then went looking for the "subjects" page of the project but couldn't find it. I'm afraid all I can reliably offer is straight transcription.

There are only a handful of unexplained words left to decipher. Any student of ancient architecture will have no trouble interpreting the missing words. Any word or phrase that I didn't recognise; I substantiated the meaning of, and recorded in the notes of each relevant page. This will corroborate that I have determined the most likely word correctly.
