Ṣalkhad, 7:30 A.M. Temp. 43 °F. Baro. S. 25.38
Clear, Calm to #1 Breeze N. Hoar Frost

Was requested by Turkish official to look at his wife who was
sick. My first experience with Mohammadin women. After having coffee
saw the poor woman, whom her husband said had been brought from
Constantinople 3 1/2 years ago. No women for her to associate with in
this place and she could not go out of the home. Went out for a
short walk once in 2 or 3 months - no children - most pitiable -
nothing to take her mind off herself - nothing to do. He promised to
allow her to go out for an hour every pleasant day hereafter. Woman
very grateful to me - husband also.

Took observations from top of castle & upon returning to camp
found at least 60 people waiting for me to give them medicine
Men, Women & children - all kinds of diseases - leprosy - blindness - briglits? etc.
siphilis

B. & L. in morning went to 'Uyûn, 1 hour N.N.W of Ṣalkhad
& hidden from it by hill. A ruined town lintels gone, not of best
Hanran? style. An aqueduct through town and a mill. Town
wall well marked. From there they went to 20 mins. West
Il-Kâris a fortified monastery on top of a high rock?. From
there back to Ṣalkhad in one hour. Roads fairly easy.
