December Saturday 31 1904

Umm il-Ḳuṭṭên 7:00 A.M. Temp 36 °F Calm, Hoar Fost. Baro. S. 26.375

F.A.N. left camp. 7:10 & went back to B'ât & took sights. #3 Breeze W. showers, & rainbow at 11:30 in (of course) North

Left B'ât 12:15 after lunching in a cave, protected from wind & rain.

Arrived Mughaiyir 1:15 went W. arriving 1:45 a ruin of one large building, most of stones of which have been taken away by the Druse. Found 3 Beduin tents there, one tent occupied by full-blooded nigro? They came up to within some 20 ft. of me while I was bathing my feet in a pool & then squatted down in a row an watched me. I asked them what they were doing there - if they were attending flocks & they answered saying they were doing nothing and had no flocks or anything else except God.

Left at 2:25 & had a fine run with my horse over a rolling country with just enough blades of thin grass springing up to make it slightly green. Arrived Umm il-Ḳuṭṭên 3:08

Way. G.S. & rolling?. G. on foot.

L. & B. at Umm il-Ḳuṭṭên
