Umm Kosêr. After camping for one night ^at Imtân ^ we set out
in an easterly direction to visit several ruins
on the eastern slope of the Djebel Haurân.
The first of these, Umm Kosêr, is an ancient
military station, neither very large or important.
In the N.E. angle of the ruins is a well built
tower constructed entirely of drafted masonry.
This tower is of better style and is perhaps
earlier than the rest of the ruin which consists
of a rectangular group of buildings about a small
court. The entrance was on the east, and there
were stables in the west side of the court.
V
il-Mithrâyeh a small ancient village completely ruined
and much broken up by the people of neighbouring
villages for building stone. There are few good
towers, the town being almost entirely of roughly
quadrated mansonry. Two capitals of Nabataean
style and few fragments of mouldings were
found. The remains of a church are perhaps to
be recognized in a ruin in S. part of the town.
Good cisterns and rubbish heaps with glazed pottery.
