Umm iz-Zētûn

in the lower courses of the dome itself.
This Kalybé, like thoses at il-Haiyût and at Shaḳḳā,
faces north. All the exterior walls are well preserved
and the subterranean chamber is still accessible.
The rear and side walls are built of half finished
quadrated work and are unbroken; the façade
is built entirely of highly finished stonework.
The façade is pretty consealed by modern work:
the present floor level is elevated far above the
ancient level and a broad flight of crudely built
steps leads up to a platform before the entrance.
The chief arch has been roughly walled up, and
a small doorway gives access to the dark interior.

Houses. There are several well-preserved houses in the
northern part of the town with well finished fronts,
ornamented door lintels and shaded windows.
One house in the N.E. part of the town still preserves
2 stories of colonnades, both late Doric with upper
achitrave moulded in rightlined profile. A modern
house in W. part of town shows a moulded arch in
interior with inscriptions, now plastered, in spandrils.
