Madame,

Yours of the 4th instant came duly to hand in reply to which I beg leave to state that the Taxes on your prpoerty were nine dollars & ninety nine cents ($9.99). Our School District purchased a school lot & House in this District last year which accounts for the Taxes being some higher than usual.

I rented the vacant part of your lot (between the Street & Water) last year up to the 15th July 1858 to Mrs Lawler for 10$ Which she used for storing [illegible] she has not yet paid But promises to in a few days. I have rented it for the same price, for most her year to Mr. Gilmet to be used as a [illegible] yard.

I could not find a tract for the old Homestead before the first of April last and then I rented it to a good family of Belgians at 4$ per month who were paid regularly since They have been in it four months making $16. Which I have requested my Deputy [illegible] of your City by pay to you by my letter of the 20th of July last - I sent
