Dr. Farell is too manly to descend to any low acts to injure an opponent or devote himself; & if in the presentiment of circumstances, severe reflection may seem to be cast upon the gentleman acting as resident physician or superintendent of the Asylum, I feel satisfied that an introduction of testimony and impartial examination of facts will satisfy the board of examiners that neither petty malice nor mean [illegible] have influenced him in the course he has pursued in placing the matter before the Board.
No suggestion from Dr. F. has dictated this note, but I have heard that there is a racally & [illegible] effort affoot to disparage him, & so offer the testimony I do, confidently believing that it would be heartily confirmed by every citizen of Madison.
