Dr Sir

It appears to have been part of
the "plan" of the conspirators against
the life of our late Great & Good
President to attempt to throw suspicion
upon the Vice President; and as one additional
proof it I deem it my duty to call
your attention to a fact told me a
short time ago by a young officer
stationed at Lexington Ky. It is
this, - that after the inauguration and
before the assassination a Kentucky
Newspaper cautioned Mr. Lincoln not
to trust himself alone in the presence
of Mr. Johnson, for fear of assassination.
If the origin of this article could be
traced, it might throw some light
upon the question as to the authors
of this part of the "plan", - who c
ould not be ignorant of the remainder.

Very respectfully

I. A. Lapham
