My dear Mr. Lapham Your letter of Aug July 14 and your package of [illegible] came safely to hand; the latter were all examined and named by me; I find many of the [Europeans?] wrongly labeled, and it was as small task to [illegible] them; I was pleased to see that all those given by [illegible] probably to [illegible] [illegible] were correct.

The 4 species you sent in the letter are 1, I. [illegible] 2, I. [illegible] 3, I. [illegible] var [illegible] 4. I. [illegible] [illegible].

If you have collected any of these in 100 good [illegible] I shall be pleased to get and distribute them; but it would not be absolutely necessary, as I get them also from other sources; I like and instead, however, to get specimens of the same

species from different localities.

Dr. [illegible] has now found I. [illegible] near Detroit, and has also rediscovered I. [illegible], but too late this season; we will be able to get it next year. He also finds that form of I. [illegible] which I desired you to get for me, abundant about Detroit.

I shall return your [illegible] as soon as I can get time to overhaul them once more.

We have had Cholera badly here, but it has not almost entirely left us and gives me thus more breathing time

Yours truly G Englemann

Dr. Shumard says he sent you the Transactions and will send the [Diploma?] as soon as he has papers made. The [illegible] cholera epidemic has set us back in other matters
