James Woodford who lives on NE of NW 27 T23 R3E Wood County 5 miles N. of Dexter sends samples of Kaolin some of which is thought to be suitable for fire brick.
A granite range (with strata dipping to the north & to the south) crosses Yellow river near Pitt's mill on the S. line of Sec 27 —
Slate roc with native copper, copper ore &c [etc]
Iron ore in the neighborhood Silver or quicksilver
A Range of Quatrite along the north line of section 8.9.10 &x [etc] in T23 Range 2 East. —
He offers to accompany any geologist as a guide &c [etc]
Sandstone extends up Yellow river William's mill near the middle of Sec 10 T. 22 R 3 East.

Meteorological Memorandum —
In or about the year 1793 a very violent hurricain [hurricane] passed over Pennsylvania leaving a "wind fall" extending through Elk, and several adjoining counties. In October 1864 I examined the ground near Hemlock Station on the Philadelphia and Erie Railway in that county; found remains of logs, hillocks formed by turned up roots, and by ^ the growth of sof hardwood that had taken the place of the [coniferae?] along the course of the storm, its course could be traced across the mountain, of this broken country
