Syn. C. alpina, Vahl.

Spikes 3 or 4 sub-umbelform, sub-sessile upper one
oblong, staminate below; perigynia oval, roundish,
triquetrous, orifice entire; longer than the
ovate or oblong black scale; bracts exceeding
the culm. Culm 6 to 10 inches high;
flowers in May. Alpine meadows.
