Leaves linear; spikes numerous
and clustered in a single dense head,
or in 1 to 3 additional looser heads on
spreading rays, linear=lanceolate
rather convex; joints of the rachis
naked; scales ovate, obtuse, loose;
achenum ovate, triangular
short pointed;

Dry sandy soil.
Wisconsin river.
Flowers in August
Height 12 to 18 inches.
