Sandstone!

As in the region west of Madison the lower limestone lies below a stratum of red sandstone it became a question of interest to know whether sandstone existed here in the same relative position i.e. between this lower limestone & the hard white regular bedded or "Waukesha Limestone at Remington's quarries, only a few miles NE of it. Upon inquiry of persons familiar with the localities about there no information could be gained on the subject. But the excess of sand in the soil, and the existence of very numerous boulders of red sandstone in this vicinity seem to indicate the existence of a layer of sandstone beneath the soil and drift.
