Lower Limestone? No!!

In June 1848 made an excursion through the southern part of Waukesha County, and in East Troy in Walworth Co. Found at Jerico on the NE 1/4 of sec 24 in Eagle (75 R 17)and the adjoining section in range 18 a quarry or ridge of yellow porous limetone very similar in all respects to that found on the Fourth Lake of which the capital is built at Madison. The foundaton of a Mill on sec 36 55 R17 is built of this rock. As it resembles the limestone of the lead mine region it is supposed that lead may be found in here, but we could find no evidence of its existence.
This rock is supposed to be equivalent to the Lower Magnesian Limestone of Owen, so well developed about the Wisconsin river and northward. We found in it traces of two fossils one an encriniteal column; the other a small bivalve shell.
