Agricultural Meeting

At a meeting of the citizens of Milwaukee and vicinity holden agreeably to previous notice at the exchange buildings on the 28th day of January 1837 for the purposes of taking into consideration the [preperatory?] of forming a County Agricultural Society. Byron Kilbourn Esq. was called to the chair, and William A. [Prentiss?] appointed Secretary [??] --

On motion of Hans [Crocker?] Esq. it was [estimated?] that its is expeditient at this time to form an agricultural society for the County of Milwaukee to be [styled?] the Milwaukee County Agricultural Society.

On motion of [?.?.] Han [Illegible] a committee consisting of [N. Ch. Hgn?], Col. A.B. Morton, and Sylvester Pettiborne was appointed for the purpose of exploring a Constitution for the adoption of this Society, and [?.?.] Hyen [Segras?] Chairman of said Committee presented the following Constituion which was adopted and signed by the [persons?] present a ---

Constitution

Sec 1 This Society shall be called the Milwaukee County Agricultural Society.-

Sec 2 Any person residing in the County of Milwaukee may become a member of this society by signing the Constitution

and paying [annually?] the sum of all [illeigble] and honoring members may be admitted by a both of the Secretary-

Sec. 3

The officers of this Society shall be a President, three Vice Presidents, a Secretary, and corresponding Secretary, a [Liason?] and [Illegible] [Illegible], who shall note their affairs for one year and until their successors are duly elected, and they shall together constitute a board of [Divisions?] to manage the affairs of the Society, five [illegible] shall constitute a quorum for the transaction of business, but they may not be entitled pay compensation for their [illegible].

Sec. 4

There shall be an annual Meeting of this Society held at Milwaukee on the first Tuesday of October in each year for the purpose of electing affairs and transacting such other business as may be deemed necessary; and the Presidents shall give at last three weeks notice of the time and place of holding said meetings.

Sec 5

It shall be the duty of the President, or in his abscene of a Vice President to preside at all meetings of the Society and of the board of [Secretary?]

Sec 6

It shall be the duty of the Secretary to keep a record of the proceedings of the Society and of the board of Directors.

Sec. 9

It shall be the duty of the Treasurer to collect and take charge of the funds of the Society; to pay the sum an the order of the President; and prepare to the board-of Directions when by then required to state of the funds-[illegible] Shall give bonds to the satisfaction of the board for the faithful performance of his duties as Treasurer.

Sec 8

No member shall be allowed books at any meeting of the Society who is in [arreasrs?] with the Treasurer--

Sec 9

This constitution may be amended at any annual meeting two thirds of the Members present, voting for such amendment-

Sec 10

The officers elected at this meeting shall have their affairs until the first annual meeting in October 1837-

Sec 11

The funds of this society shall be disposed of at the dissution of the board of Directors-

Sec 12

There shall be a meeting of the Society whenever any [find?] of the Director, shall so direct after giving an weeks public notice-

On motion of H. [Crocker?] Esq. a Committee consisting of H. Crocker, I.H. Rogus, and Sylvester Pettibone [Esq.?] was appropriated to nominate affairs for the year [saving?] and [illegible] [in behalf of] said Committee of [illegible] the following named persons, who are unanimously stated.

A motion [illegible], that the Preceedings of this meeting be published in the Milwaukee Adventurer.

The meeting then adjourned without say-
