Elkhorn- a town in Walworth county including surveyed townships three and four [LaGrange 1843] in range sixteen. It occupies very elevated ground [and continues] near the head water of streams rising in all directions, as from a summit. Bark river has a small tributary; Honey creek and Sugar crek take their rise within this town or the adjoining town of LaGrange and Turtle creek and Whitewater river receive supplies from the western portion of the town. A fine group of small lakes [eight or ten in number] form the source of [Honey creek and] Sugar creek; and there [are three] is a beautiful prairie in the northern [different] parts of the town; [one shaped like a heart and called Heart Prairie, in La Grange, and the other from its shape called Round Prairie.] Its population in 1838 was one hundred and seventy seven; in 1840-441 in 1842-430-

Elkhorn, a post town at the south east corner of the town of Elkhorn, being the centre, and county seat of Walworth county- 49 m. from Southport.
