Fond du Lac county has in common with other portions of the Territory increased very considerably in population within the last year. West of Lake Winnebago the county is mostly prairie or openings- east of that lake it is covered with timber of the common kinds & proportions except that in some places there is an excess of Basswood or Linden (Tilia Americana) (See Calumet & Marquette.)
