Indian name of Green Bay was a word signifying "Salt Bay" ib p 275 After passing rapids, &c Marquette came to an Indian village of Maskoutins, or "nation of fire" &c ib 275 where there were Mineal waters &c (2n what kind of mineral water & where was this village). Within 3 leagues ( miles) of the Mississippi &c Father Allouex had been there the year before-having traversed the country from L. Sup. Ibid p277-Marquette passed along L. Mich from Chicago to Green Bay in Sept. [1743?] Marquettes' map in Sp. 10 p 263-first published in Paris in 1687.
