Montreal River, a large tributary of Lake Superior from the south, forming part of the boundary line between Wisconsin and Michigan; the water has a redish color. It is full of rapids, especially towards the Lake, and is scarcely navigable for canoes. About eighty yards from the mouth there is a rapids with a descent of some eighty or ninety feet, including one perpendicular pitch or fall of forty feet.
