quite impossible for canoes, or even sturgeon to pass this
fall, with safety. The scenery hare is picturesque and
the abundance of sturgeon causes it to be visited very
frequently by the Indians.

Sturgeon Lake (or Nameeau)—One of the lakes forming the northern bound
of the Territory lying between Rainy Lake and Lake St.
Croix. 10 m long

Sturgeon Lake—a lake near the source of the Bois Brulé.

Sugar river, a considerable stream rising in Dane County fifteen miles
west from Madison and running south through the Eastern part of
Green County enters the Pekatonica in Illinois. It may
be considered as the eastern limit of the "mineral district"
as no mines have as yet been discovered, east of this
stream, although there are several near it on the
west side.
