Winnepeck (Lake) a lake near the source of the Mississippi fifteen miles long, nearly round, destitute of islands, and surrounded by pine hills. The Mississippi runs through it. The water is clear and deep.

Winnepeck (Little Lake), a lake about five moles long and three wide in the Mississippi ten miles below Lake Winnepeck.

Wiota, hist. a town in Iowa county one mile above the junction of the two branches of the Pekatonica, on the west side of the East Branch. It has one store and a few other buildings. 34 m to Galena.

Wisconsin river, the largest river within the Territory, rising in Lac Vieux Desert and running in a southerly direction about two hundred and fifty to the Winnebago Portage in Portage county, where it suddenly turns to the west and enters the Mississippi near Prairie du Chien, one hundred and fifteen miles below the Portage
