My dear Sir,-

Yours of Feb. 20 is before me and have sent you a copy of my publication of Melania in 1851 including "Napella."***

I had my photograph taken while in N.Y. but have not yet rec'd any impressions, as soon as received will forward one to you. Like every one else in such matters, I am not proud of my phiz, as thus portrayed, but the sun was obstinate and stoutly persisted in jotting down every wrinkle and every other strange and ugly feature he found encumbering my face and I had to be content. I can't help acknowledging that I [was] am not quite so young as I was 40 years ago.***
