March 30 1852

I. A. Lapham Esq

Dear Sir
Your communication of March
4" / 52 was duly received.

The remarks contained in it relative to the deductions
in Prof [illegible] report were read with much attention &
[illegible] partly in presence of Prof [illegible] himself.

He thought that some of the discrepancies noted by you
might be local in their character or otherwise to be explained.
The general impression here however have been for some time part
that his generalizations have been made upon data too exclusively obtained
[over?] the part of the country East of the Mississippi.

We have now a little chart in process of engraving upon which an
attempt is made to define the climatic boundaries of the
[illegible] East of the Rocky Mts. I will send a copy soon if possible.

Yours etc
E Foreman
