Beloit College May 1st, 1852

Dear Sir

Your letter of Jan. 6th has
remained too long without its receipt
& that of the plants accompanying it being
acknowledged. I am greatly obliged to
you for the plants & now knowing how
you view the matter, am sorry that I
did not mark any plant [illegible] is [illegible]-
ting in my Herbarium & that you probably
have. My reason for not doing so was
that I found that you would feel as though
I wished to make you my collector of many
of the most common plants in Wisconsin.

As I have lately donated to the college here
all my plants & as I am desirous of providing
myself with a new Herbarium if it is not
asking too much of you, I shall be happy to
receive a suite of Wisconsin Plants or any thing
that you may feel at liberty to part with.

I thank you for the list of fossils collected
by your nephew. I have already had occasion
to make use of it.

I was happy to learn that your catalogue
of minerals is likely to be published. You have
my full approval of your course in the cir-
cumstances. I probably could not have bettered
