To the Hon. The Senate and House of Assembly of the State of Wisconsin
The undersigned residents of the Fox River Valley & County of Brown respectfully represent,
That by the charter passed by the Legislature of the late Territory of Wisconsin granting to William Dickinson, John L. Arndt, Charles Laller, their associates, and asking the privilege of erecting and maintaining a dam across Fox River at the Rapids of DePere in said County and other rights and privileges the said Legislature reserved the power and right to fix and make each farther out other requirements and restricting as should thereafter appear to them to be necessary of the public good.
And your petitions further represent that by reason of the incompletion and insufficiency of the lock constructed in said Dam, erected by virtue of said grant, the public are subject to great inconvenience, delay and expense in navigating the said river, and that the public convenience and which require that a new and more capacious lock should be fixed in said dam and that proper attention and assistance should be ordered by said company to the passing of boat, through the same.
Even petitioning therefore respectfully ask that a law may be passed requiring the said company there [illegible] or associates to build and finish before the 1st day of August [illegible] a good and substantial lock in said Dam of the

length of one hundred and forty feet and of the breadth of thirty feet. So that the same may correspond with the locks which may be built by the directors of the appropriation for the improvement of the Fox and Wisconsin Rivers, and in case of failure of the said company to comply with the said requirement that the said charter and all the rights, rules and privileges thereby granted shall be declared for [illegible]
