Fulton Rock Co. Jan. 1847
To the Hon. Council and House of Representatives of the Territory of Wisconsin
We the undersigned petitioners inhabitants of the twon of Fulton (Rock Co.) and vicinity would respectfully present unto your Hon. body, that a mail rout from Janesville through Fulton village in the town of Fulton and through Cookville in the town of Union and intersect the Madison and Janesville rout at Rutland Post Office would greatly accomodate the inhabitants of the towns of Fulton, Oak, Union, Albion and Dunkirk - That Fulton village has now only a side mail from Warrens Post office over a week, and Cookville has now no mail - That the great increase of business in these two flourishing villages demand an established mail rout through them and a mail oftener than once a week - That the distance from Janesville to Rutland Post Office on this proposed Rout and which is now a regular traveled road is three miles less than the regular rout on which the stage now runs - We therefore you petitioners pray, your Hon body to memorialize Congress for the above described rout at the earliest opportunity and your petitioners as in duty bound will ever pray to.
