To the honorable members of the Assembly for the State of Wisconsin!

In the years 1847 and 1848 was two charters granted of the democratic Administration be a corporation of Citizens at Neenah & Menasha to build two dams across the Fox River - and on the Menasha side. The consequences of this charters is floating and destroying of a great deal of our lands and property. We are grieved to see our legal property destroyed with these men who regardless of the provisons made in charter itself, prohibiting them from raising the watering Lake Winnebago, and regardless of the provisions made in charter itself prohibiting them from raising the watering Lake Winnebago and regardless of our property raised the water far above its natural height, and thereby considers great loose and legal property; - Therefore we the undersigned inhabitance and Residents; The Town of Blackwolff do hereby respectfully petion your honorable Body that you in your wisdom will find a remedy for the evil; we also beg:

1st that the Menasha dam, which is built on the very top of the rapids may be removed so far down, that the height of the dam not exceed the hight of the Rapids and that both dams be provided with a lock of sufficient wide to be kept open through the wet seasons.

2nd Or if not then we respectfully beg that the charter to those distinctive dams may be repealed all in accordance with the provisions made in the charter itself to that effect.
