To the Hon. Senate & Assembly of the State of Wisconsin

Gentlemen.

The undersigned citizens and resident tax payers of the Village of Two Rivers Wisconsin, having recently learned that a petition asking for the rescinding of our Village Charter, has been forwarded to your Hon. Body for action, would respectfully remonstrate and protest against same and for the following reasons viz: The charter is a matter of great benefit to our Village in maintaining order and discipline, and in promoting improvement.

The principal tax payers and a majority of the residents, desire that the present charter be left undisturbed.

The number of inhabitants now resident as Two Rivers, demand and warrants some system of government other than that afforded in the system of Town government and fully justify and call for a continuance of our present [measured?]

form of village government.

The present charter is not odious or obnoxious to us to the inhabitants by reason of excessive taxes to improvisions of any kind.

We therefore pray your Hon. Body to allow our charter to remain as is present and as we duty bound we will ever pray &c.

Two Rivers Feb. 9th 1865.
