To the Honorable Legislature of the State of Wisconsin
Whereas certain parties non residents of this state and speculators in pine lands in some of the northern counties of this state are making an effort to get a law passed such as will restrict the boundaries of County Town & Road & School Districts so as to exempt their lands from taxation and believing as we do that all parties owning Real Estate within a County Town School or Road District ought and should by right be taxed for the purpose of sustaining each and all of these organizations and for such improvements as are deemed necessary to be made for public benefit therein-and also believing that the present laws of this state regulating the boundaries of Counties Towns and Roads & School Districts and the taxation thereof, are right and just and do not bear unjustly upon any property owners-
Therefore the undersigned citizens of Dunn County would hereby remonstrate against any alteration of said law and especially against any alteration that would allow nonresident speculators to reap the benefit of taxes imposed upon actual settlers without they are also taxed Dated Dunn County this Feby 16th 1861
