Kalk Bay
We drove on this beach and stopped a few minutes We were at once surrounded by little black children who wished to sell us strings of shells
We drove through this avenue called Natures Cathedral. It is said that the Dutch destroyed all the trees, using the wood for fuel in the early days of their occupancy. As there was no other fuel, this was probably necessary. However, they made good the loss by planting whole forests of pine, oak and other varieties. It was done by slave labor, which the resident say made the planting of so many trees possible. The visitor gets the impression that the pine is native, so frequent scattered and natural does it appear, but none are indigenous.
