As per verbal instructions
from the Brig. Genl Commanding 1st Military Sub
District I have the honor to inform you of the
result of experimental fireing with 12 Pound Brass
Rifle Gun turned over to me by Capt Charles Benton
Ordonance Officer.
Result of fireing as follows 3 Shots 3 degrees
elevation, distance 1500 yards. 1st shot struck
100 yards left of Target. 2nd shot 60 yard right
of Target. 3rd shot directly in front of Target.
3½ degrees Elevation. Distance of 2200 Yards
1st shot 50 yards in front of Target.
2nd shot 13 yards left of Target. 4 Degrees
Elevation. Distance 2600 Yards. Shell exploded
10 yards in rear of Target using 1½ Pound
Powder per charge and I have no doubts with a
little Practice better results can be obtained
