CRIMEA Sunday 2nd fine day & Report that the Schooner we passed yesterday was lost & Crew near the Harbour

Monday 3rd Fine but Cold Still on board in Harbour

Tuesday 4th At 10 a.m. had to walk up to the fronnt a distent of 6 miles & over the Ancles in Mud & had to Carry Our Beds &c & Carts for our Tools got up to the front at 5 p.m. & had to go into a Tent which had only been put the same day with Mud in them 3 Inch Deep which we had to sleep on the Night Very windy

Wednesday 5th Went down to Balaklava for some things which were left all Night on the rock

Thursday 6th Very Cold & Rain & at Night our Tent blew down & we left under a Blanket

Wednesday 12th Cold & Snow Very Deep & a Great Meney sick From Sleeping in Tents

Saturday 15th 10th Week Very Cold & Snowey Rec~d £1..0..0. Our boots froze to the Ground & the frost on Our Blankets

Wednesday 19th This day was the Coldest day that our Army has Experance in the Crimea we could not Work had to go down to Balaklava for Timber Some of Our Men got frostbitten in thear Ruturn

Sunday 23rd Had to go down to Balaklava for Timber. W.R. Spent the Afternoon with me in the Tent.

Monday 24th Rec~d 5..9..6. Stoped 17..6 for Freight in the Schooner Rechard from Tunis to Malta Very Cold & Snowey all day. Went into a Hut

Tuesday 25th Went to Doneybrook Bort things for the day After dinner went down & spent the After part of the day at the Gaurds Camp

Sunday 30th Fine day & went To the Town of Sebastopol On the french Side over the Floating Bridge. Come home through the Redan

Flag of Truse & Delivered Depatches [ ] & return & then the Russians opened fire very quick & well Returned by the french when I & 5 more mates was standing near the Sheer legs in the Dry Docks. A Shell Flew over our heads & Exploded about 100 yds [yards] from us had Dinner in the Sappers & Miner Quaters

Tuesday 29th Between 9 & 10.p.m. the Whole of the Camps was Startled by a Heavey Cannonade from Sebastapol & along the line of Attack it was the heavest that as been herd since the fall of Serbastopol Officers & all sorts was Flocking up to Cathcarts Hill from Great Distent the Corse of the firing was the Russians was coming over in 7 Boats to affect a landing but when the boats was under one of the french Battery the french opened a Terrible fire on the boats sunk one & the outhers retired. The Russians Commence a heavey fire from all the Battery right round to Inkerman a Shell fell in the french Guard boat Killed a man & nearley sunk the boat a Round Shot went through the Roof of the Town Mayors house the Cheaf of the Enemy fire was Directed against the french side thay sent shot & shell into the Redan & Malakoff At Work at the 18th R.I. Very Cold Snowey & windy all the week & Diffrent Rigments reviewed in the Ravin [Ravine] and Ball Carthridge fireing

Thursday 31st Very rough at sea with Snow

[Tues]day Jan~y 1st 1856 Every one at Work. Frosty but dry.

Sunday 6th Frost & Snow. Went to Kamisch [Kamiesch] the French port in the Crimea Cold & Very Windy all the week.

Sunday 13th Snowey & Cold went to the Redan & Town & dry dock blowing them up all the week

Saturday 19th Rec~d 2..12..8. Stoped 7..4 for loosing ½ day the Russians fire was grater than Usel [usual]

Sunday 20th Cold and Raining all day

Monday 21st Went to Work at the 18th Royal Irish Near the Revin left of Cathcarts Hill Large fire at Kemisch all the week Very bad Wether

Saturday 26th 16th Week Got a Pass to go into & all over the Stores Docks &c from the Cornel [colonel] of the 18th R.I. For tomorrow Sunday

Friday Feb~ry 1st Very Cold & Snow & rough at Sea

Sunday 3rd Very fine & warm & went to St Georges Monestry

Monday 4th Went up to the Lime Kiln to see the blowing up the Fort Nicholas & Michailoff mounting 192 Guns which Commence at 1 p.m. it shook the Earth for Miles & the Air with Smoke for hours the Explosions lasted some time the Sight was Splended

Tuesday 5th Fort Michael blown up & all the week

Thursday 7th Went to the Valley of the Tchenaya & drank out of the River, which Devides the french from the Russians the Russians fire into this waters it is whear the french waters thear horses Finished at the 18th Royal Irish 3rd Devision

Monday 11th Went up to the 30th 2nd Devision to work Blowing up the Barracks Stores Houses the Shocks was Great all the week in the English Side of the Town
