France, 16/7/18.

Dear Sister:-

Now, I am just going to get a few lines written. I have just finished a letter to Jessie, and have only a few moments left. I guess you think this an old excuse. I thought I was going to have several hours to myself this afternoon & this evening, the first in about ten days, but I have thought wrong. The truth is I'll be on the move with my bundle on my shoulder before couple of hours and I have not begun to pack up yet.

Well Nettie, I cannot get a birthday card here to send you but I send you the very best wishes. When is Charlie's birthday?

I have been busy lately reading about June 12: I got Jessie's letter of June 12th, Bessie's of June 13th, Mabel's of June 15th, Mabel's & Mothers and yours of June 22nd with you back at the old stand, with Mabel practising the Anthems and Charlie teasing her. Jessie will send you

2/ my letter to her as I have not time to write much more. I hope you two are well settled and as happy as larks. I had many laughs about June 12th, you know, joyous laughs but do you know [crossed out word] they should not have sent me that menu list; we bash men on the heads here when they begin raving about chicken and lemon pies and ice cream, etc. Too bad you felt sick going up to Blyth. I knew you would, however. It would be good to hear aunt Jessie's laugh. How did the car navigate? You did not break the horn again tooting too loudly? I wrote to Florence Watson a few days ago (about ten days.). Well kiddo I must close and I promise you and Charlie a better letter next time. I must be up and doing. With heaps of love and good wishes for you both. Your loving brother Oliver. xxxxxx [signature in different handwriting at the side] [D Harris?]

Ward 32 no.16. Can. Gen. (Ontario) Hosp. Orpington, Kent, Eng. Sept. 22nd. 1918. Dear Sister:- It is about the middle of the forenoon, and it certainly seems cozy to sit here in a 'chair' beside my bed and look out of the window at the storm and gale. It has been very stormy lately, equinoctial gales I suppose. I have just finished a letter to Pearl Stanley: I had not written to Pearl for about four months. I wrote yesterday evening to Dave Radcliffe, although I do not know where he is. My mail has not reached me from the battallion yet and may not for a week or so. I wrote to mother two or three days ago, and to Jessie a few days before that when I was at the Royal Herbert Hospital at Woolwich. I wrote to mother a week before that from the 22nd Gen Hosp, France. I have come across about half a dozen of the boys from A. Coy. of the 4th, who
