My dear Senator:

Thank you for having let me see
Mr. Erving Winslow's letter. I appreciate
the force of what he suggests about Russia,
and I do not know that I have ever had a
more tiresome struggle with quicksand than
I am having in trying to do the right thing
in respect of our dealings with Russia.

With the deepest appreciaion of your
fine speech of the other day.

Cordially and sincerely yours,

enc.
Hon. John Sharp Williams,
United States Senate.
