Danbury Conn. Aug 15 1900.

My dear Jim:- I saw by yesterday's Tribune that you have been appointed compiler of Histories Athletica in Princeton. Let me congratulate you although you have a lot of work to do.

The dispatch also stated that you were now in Princeton at work. Lucky fellow! I tell you I envy you and the rest of the fellows who are going to spend even one more short year in the old place. I trust that this isn't all 'Hot Air' from the versatile pen of Mr. Bowlby, whose handiwork is evidenced at times in the metropolitan dailies, and that there really is something in it.

About Mr. Bowlby & the Press Club, a lady said to me the other day 'Why how much Princeton has come to the fore in the last few years' One sees so much about it in the papers' Flies & even mosquitos, they say, do have their uses.

I expect to start west about next Monday. Im going to stop off at Lisle & see the old [Tigers?]

William Hercules Edwards where I expect to enjoy the open hospitality of Broome county as the guest of 'our Willie'. I stop off a day or two at Pittsburg & Chicago. I want to see Tom Cloney at Sedalia too if possible but there are too many state boundary lines intervening at present for me to plan so far ahead. I am due in Lincoln Neb the 10th of Sept.

Arthur Poe & 'Phil' King are up on the Great Lakes. Bert Wheeler & George Obetenffer are in Europe. 'Philosopher' Davis I saw in N.Y. a while ago en route for New Hampshire with a carload of kids. He said he was going to have a summer camp up there. Hope he doesn't make them go naked.

I understand that there is a great big lot of freshmen due in the fall. 425 is what I heard. Most generous estimate. I think it exceeds all othes - must be some thing back of it. Have you heard of a young gentlemen by the name of Cargrave? I believe he intends to annex himself to next years freshman

class. I tried to stick him for my room & he has written me a couple of fresh letters. Did I say fresh? Impudent they were. Corkers. I don't want to see the hazing resolutions infringed but I think their suspension for about three days would react to this young mans advantage & future happiness. Now Jim, when you can tear yourself away from the categories of Kant & the catches of Kafer just scribble me a few lines telling me how Chris the barber is & Andy Hert & all our old friends
