Avalon NJ August 24, '02.
Dear Mr Moffat;
You asked me to write about the first of August but this is the nearest I can come to it.
I am getting along very well in studying. I have read all the books ex cept one which was too dry and which someone will have to read with me. I looked over part of the geometry; but during the last two weeks I have

spent my time on the Greek condition After the condition exams on the 5th I hope to bone down to the Princeton exams until the 17th.
I have been a foot this last year and had too much of a good time, but I hope to change my tactics for 1903 and make a good finish.
A friend of mine arrived here about a week ago with a good sized cat-boat and I have gone out with him a number of times alone and together we have taken parties out sailing as he calls me his mate.
We had so many experiences

on that boat in a few days that I feel able to write nearly enough essays for the term but thank goodness I have heard we don't have that variety. But now I must close as something tells me it is about eating time a very important occasion here.
Hoping you may have had a very pleasant vacation and come back to pound knowledge into our heads hard.
Yours sincerely EO Howell Jr.
P.S. On looking over this there seems to be a awful lot of "I"'s it dont sound right but cant seem to work em in any other way
