August 1891

20 the wood to the keepers - General duties for the day 1st asst went to Newport after mail - Had thirty two visitors today.

21 Fresh to moderate breeze and light N.W. wind these 24 hours with clear fine and warm - Sea smooth - General duties for the day - Keeper and 2nd asst went to Newport - Had eighteen visitors today. Mr. Isaac L. Smith went to Newport and took the oath of office as 2nd asst at this station.

22 Moderate breeze to light N.W. wind these 24 hours with clear fine and warm weather - Sea smooth - General duties for the day - Had twenty three visitors today - The barometer is going down a little today. Keeper went to Newport on important business - Left the station at 9 A.M.

23 Fresh to moderate and strong breeze N.W. these 24 hours - First part of 24 hours thick damp fog - Last part of 24 hours some thick fog - Sea quite rough - General duties for the day - Had thirty two visitors. Keeper returned to the station at 1 P.M. - Mr. I.L. Smith 2nd asst went to a wedding at Newport - Left the station at 9 A.M.

24 Fresh breeze N.W. these 24 hours first part of 24 hours thick damp fog - Last part of 24 hours fair weather - Sea little rough - General duties for the day - Had nine visitors today. Keeper went to Newport after a new pump for cistern. Mr. I.L. Smith 2nd asst returned to the station at 11:30 A.M.

25 Fresh and moderate breeze N.W. first part of 24 hours. Last part of 24 hours light to moderate and fresh breeze N.W. with thick damp fog most of 24 hours - Sea little rough - General duties for day - Keeper & 2nd asst cleaning out hen house - Had thirty four visitors.

26 Moderate breeze N.W. to light south wind with thick damp fog - First part of 24 hours - Last part of 24 hours light N.W. wind smookey & warm - Sea smooth - Keeper & 2nd asst whitewashing hen-house - 1st asst went to Newport. Had twenty eight visitors today. Willamette Valley sailed today.

27 Light N.W. to south wind with thick damp fog during 24 hours - Sea smooth - General duties for the day - Keeper & 1st asst went fishing - Keeper also repairing horse stall in barn - Had twelve visitors today.

28 Light south wind and calm first part of 24 hours - Last part of 24 hours light to moderate and fresh breeze N.W. with thick damp fog during the 24 hours - Sea quite smooth - General duties for the day - Had fourty five visitors today - Keeper F.M. Plummer went to Newport on important business - Left the station at 9 A.M.

29 Fresh to moderate breeze N.W. with thick damp fog during these 24 hours - General duties for the day. Had twenty one visitors today - 1st asst went to Newport - Keeper Mr. F.M. Plummer returned to the station at 10 A.M.

30 Light N.W. wind with thick fog first part of 24 hours - Last part of 24 hours light to moderate and fresh breeze N.W. clear fine weather - Sea quite smooth - General duties for day - Had nine visitors today.

31 Fresh and moderate breeze these 24 hours with clear fine weather during 24 hours - Sea smooth. General duties for the day - Mr. Watson brought 19 chickens to Keeper & 2nd asst - Had nine visitors today.

1 Fresh to moderate breeze N.W with thick damp fog first part of 24 hours - Last part of 24 hours light N.W. wind fair weather but smooky - Sea smooth - Had 25 visitors - General duties for day - Keeper & 2nd asst. went to Newport - Keeper got the [galvanized pipe]] today for house.

2 Light N.W. to S wind with thick damp fog during the 24 hours - Sea quite smooth - Had three visitors - General duties for the day - Keeper digging a few potatoes today.

3 Light South wind and calm with thick fog first part of 24 hours - Last part of 24 hours light to moderate N.W. wind clearing weather - Sea smooth. General duties for the day - Keeper & 1st asst went to Newport.

Head Keeper - Frank Plummer, First Assistant -Edward Rice, *Laborer - Isaac L. Smith *Note the position of Isaac L. Smith was "Laborer" until he was official hired and sworn in as "Second Assistant keeper" in November 1891. From June 1890 to November 1891 the position of 2nd Assistant keeper (which required a "trained" keeper to operate the lamp) remained unfilled.
